The temperatures rise and so do the number of motorcycle thefts. Many bikers think that the only options to prevent thefts are steering and chain locks. Or that additional anti theft systems are too expensive and complicated to install. But the motorcycle accessory experts from Kellermann in Aachen, Germany, have an interesting option in their impressive range of innovative products. It is an indicator relay with integrated alarm and hazard flasher unit – an intelligent solution at a fair price.

A regular steering lock can be broken within seconds. The tricks are simple but effective: bolt cutters, ice sprays and picking tools do the job. Effective prevention comes with a combination of security features, most of the time they deter a potential thief right from the start. Steering locks come as a standard, additional security features are different chain and break locks and immobilizers. This high-end flasher module is a smart unit over and above other exchange flasher relays. It is configured with intuitive smart functions and has an integrated warning flasher and alarm system built-in. In addition is also has an integrated flasher reset memory and battery protection. Should the supply voltage drop below 11 volts, the alarm system switches off in order to prevent damage taking place to the battery. As with all Kellermann flasher relays, the in some cases occurrence of unwanted additional flashing of non-activated turn indicators has also been cured. The flasher rate is load independent and is set at a steady 75 pulses / min. The casing is metal and very slim allowing for a simple concealed installation on any motorcycle. The unit can be fixed to the motorcycle in the simplest way using the accompanying mounting strip. Despite the unit’s many functions, connection is very simple. In addition to the standard connections for this kind of relay, all that’s required are further connections to the horn and a constant power feed. The unit can be switched between two convenience function modes:

Alarm Unit -The alarm is set by the very simple method of turning the ignition on/off twice in quick succession (on /off, on /off ). Successful arming of the alarm is signaled by a control light. Potential thieves can see that the alarm is active by the flashing of the control light every 15 seconds and so be deterred from tampering with the motorcycle. The alarm unit responds to changes in position and vibration. If the alarm is triggered then the motorcycle’s horn will sound and the turn indicators will start to fl ash left and right alternately. This alarm status will last for 30 seconds and will then reset itself immediately back into armed mode.

Hazard Flasher Unit -The hazard flasher unit cannot be switched on by casual passers-by since it will not activate without the key being in the ignition. If the hazard flasher unit is turned on and the ignition key is then removed, the unit will continue to function until it is either manually turned off, or is switched off by the battery protection circuit. To reactivate the hazard flasher system the ignition must first of all be turned back on.
